President's Message


Welcome to a new and exciting year of school and a new year at Great Neck South HS. The 2022-2023 school year will truly be unlike any other. As we start this special year together during the time of the COVID 19 pandemic, please remember the mission of the PTO - to positively impact the lives of our children and families.  Together at GNSHS, we support this mission through our wide-ranging efforts by supporting school and district programs, supporting the school community through events, and giving direct help to the teachers and staff at GNSHS.  

Our role as parent advocates and liaisons are more important than ever.  Members of the PTO  have worked hard throughout the summer with administration to make sure your voices are heard.  We will continue to be here throughout this year and years to come. 

As we head back to school, we ask that you please join your PTO by paying your membership dues of $30 (per family) and by participating in any way that you are able to. By taking part in the PTO, you will have an opportunity to be engaged in your children’s school lives. Research shows that parent and family involvement is key to helping children succeed in school. This basic idea is the core philosophy behind the PTO. The PTO believes that interaction, communication and knowledge sharing are all essential parts of the educational process. We encourage you to attend PTO meetings whenever possible so that you can become more informed about what is going on at school. We also recommend that you attend school district Board of Education meetings, volunteer on committees, and participate in district votes. By doing so, you will not only learn a lot about what goes on in our district, you will also have a voice. Plus, you will also be showing your children the importance of getting involved. 

The PTO primarily communicates with parents via e-mail messages and this website.  We also invite you to subscribe to our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/GNSHSPTO).  The website provides you with important announcements, school-related information and PTO news. We hope you continue to visit this site for updates.             

Your PTO supports student activities and programs. Activities include: senior awards, scholarships, community outreach events and guest speakers. Your PTO also helps fund special purchases for the school that are not funded by the district budget. For example, our resources provided “follow spotlights” to be used for all auditorium programs.  This year especially we were able to help fund and put together welcome back safety  kits.
