Shared Decision Making Committee

Every school in the Great Neck Public School District has a New York State mandated Shared Decision Making Committee. The Committee offers a unique opportunity for parents, teachers, administrators and students to work collaboratively to achieve goals that will improve the educational experience of all students.

How can parents help make this committee a success?

I. Submit Goal Suggestions

The issues that may be addressed by our shared committee include:

program evaluation
curriculum/curricular activities
student life
food services
facilities
building maintenance
assessment practices
safety and security
technology
home-school communication
environmental awareness and wellness

Goals that have been addressed in the past include:

a joint effort by North and South High Schools to update the District’s Technology Policy with the goal of loosening the internet filter and establishing school based student e-mail addresses
improving communication regarding the college admissions process
establishing guidelines regarding “academic integrity”
modifying the procedure for changing student schedules
expanding the electronic calendar to include specific descriptions of all school events
improving school web sites
increasing student spirit and participation

Meeting Dates
The Committee meets on a monthly basis (usually the first Monday) at 2:45pm. Meetings generally end by 4:00pm. Meeting dates can be found on the district calendar.
